As the Washington Gardener blog reports, the USNA azalea and boxwood collection, which had lost its funding, has been given a reprieve, thanks to public outcry and support from National Garden Clubs and other organizations.

At last - common sense! To even consider the destruction of two of the most complete collections in the world is beyond comprehension. Having been in the nursery/landscape business all of my life, I can tell you that specimen material like this is difficult to find, if not impossible. If available, it would be very, very expensive. It's good to see a move away from the disposable mentality. Thanks to public outcry, future generations can enjoy both the Azalea and Boxwood collections. Well done!
